The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is delighted to once again be part of Leeds Digital Festival, bringing you the latest business opportunities in China.

China is the fastest growing and most dynamic global market for emerging digital technologies. With 900 million plus internet users and a vibrant consumer economy, China is experiencing rapid and large-scale deployment of emerging technologies, including 5G, advanced AI, IoT and blockchain-based technologies. Its digital economy is worth 30% of its GDP.

The session will include panel discussions with:

Elinor Greenhouse
Senior Adviser, Tech and Innovation

China-Britain Business Council

As sector lead for Tech and Innovation at the China-Britain Business Council, Elinor is responsible for supporting British tech and healthcare companies entering and operating within the Chinese market and leads on CBBC’s engagement for intellectual property matters and export licensing regulation.

 

Prior to joining CBBC, Elinor lived in China for eight years, where she worked as an intellectual property strategist advising international companies on IP strategy in China. Elinor is a fluent Mandarin speaker and has previously translated for academic journals in the fields of Economics and Law. She holds a Bachelor’s in Law from The University of Sheffield and a Master’s in Chinese Law from Peking University, where her research focused on the use of AI within China’s smart courts and has been published in the Peking University Law Journal.

 

TREVOR LEWIS

Deputy Director- Innovation and Industry

Trevor Lewis has been Deputy Director, Innovation and Industry at the UK Department for Business and Trade, based at the British Consulate-General Guangzhou since October 2022. This is a China wide role. Immediately prior to this, Trevor was Counsellor and Director for Trade and Investment at the British Embassy in Moscow from March 2019 to July 2022. Before Moscow he was Political Counsellor at the British Embassy in Baghdad. He was also Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy, Manila, from August 2011 – July 2015 and Director for Trade and Investment at the British High Commission, Kuala Lumpur from 2007-2011. Trevor has also served in London, Shanghai, Dubai, Washington DC, Accra, and Brussels.
