Leeds Loves Search.

We consider Leeds to be a hub for Search within the UK, with some of the biggest and best agencies in the country all delivering industry leading results in search for world class brands.

As part of the Leeds Digital Festival therefore we have created this event to bring together a number of these leading agencies to join us for an afternoon of insight into the topics of; Technical SEO, Content Marketing, Link Building and PR and analytics.

Leeds Digital Drinks is an informal Friday evening catch-up for all those interested in tech, creative and start-up culture.

Speakers for the event include:

- Stephen Kenwright, Director of Search, Branded3 - How to gain legitimate and google friendly links within difficult or “spammy” industries

As Director of Search at Branded3 Stephen is responsible for owned media, including search and analytics. Writing weekly for the Drum Magazine, Stephen has presented at more than 100 industry events since joining Branded3 in 2012 and now organises the SearchLeeds conference, hosting hundreds of marketers from around Europe every year.

Talk Synopsis: Link building has seen dramatic changes over the past few years. Once popular techniques such as blogger guest posting and exact match anchor text are disappearing as brands take a more traditional, editorial PR route. The majority of SEO professionals have put down their black hats and opted for this PR approach when building links to their domain. However, some industries have been better at making this change than others, there are still a select few industries who have not followed suit and continue to create poor quality links by using “spammy” techniques. This is of course seen more frequently in industries which are hard to market, and who struggle to gain natural links due to the nature of their brand.
All is not lost though. A simple change of strategy may be all that’s needed to turn hard to market clients into white hat, award winning brands that gain natural links and even positive national press.

- Malcolm Slade, Head of Technical SEO, Epiphany - Brand: The Only Future Ranking Factor

Malcolm has been working in search since 2005, when he joined Epiphany as the first employee. His expertise is problem solving which lends itself very well to his role as Head of Technical SEO. Malcolm likes to think of himself as an “approachable nerd”, able to talk equally well to normal people and technical nerds like him.
