Leeds Digital Festival joins forces with Leeds Phoenix Rotary and Kwizzbit to support Leeds Community Foundation.
Echoing the Prime Minister’s appraisal that SMEs are the backbone of the British economy, the economic benefits of Leeds Digital Festival are often touted by those who come along. And with Leeds – the Tech Capital of the North -striding affront of the Northern Powerhouse, the benefits of giving small digital businesses a collaborative platform hasn’t been missed by press.
…But what of the social benefits?
This year, Leeds Digital Festival have refreshed the page on the meaning of a digital community, with healthcare, diversity, and digital inclusion taking centre-stage, and partnering with the charitable Leeds Community Foundation.
Festival Director, Stuart Clarke, is overjoyed to welcome the Leeds Community Foundation (LCF) as an official charity partner.
‘Choosing the Leeds Community Foundation as our charity partner made perfect sense. The Foundation performs such an important role within the city and we hope to be able to introduce its work to more people and companies within the digital sector. We’re looking forward to working with Kate and the team for many years to come!’
For those who haven’t heard of LCF, the concept is pretty genius: the Leeds Community Foundation use their network of generous individuals and companies to finance the Leeds Fund, a pot of donations that the Foundation distribute to grassroots charities, organisations and social enterprises that simply don’t have the resources (nor marketing budget) to put themselves in the public eye to maximise donations. Sending their team out into the field of positive change to gather social impact reports, after painstaking research, they decide which charitable causes gain the most benefit from the Fund – and can do the most to help our community.
It’s not your Cancer Research or Save the Children: Leeds Community Foundation puts finance into local hands for a local cause – and then help them every step of the way, whether that’s advice or hands on the ground.
In the digifest spirit of collaboration, the recently-established Leeds Phoenix Rotary (known in fancy terms as the Rotary Club of Leeds Phoenix) and Kwizzbit are bringing a charitable cause, digital innovation, and – in true Leeds style – a good pub quiz to #leedsdigi18 to raise funds for Leeds Community Foundation and Leeds Fund.
Nestled into our fabulously indie partner venue, Duke Studios, the young blood of Leeds Phoenix Rotary will be taking the Dragon’s Den favourite mobile quiz game, Kwizzbit, for a joy ride over a generously-donated bar tab courtesy of Duke. And joyous it will certainly prove to be if the hoots of laughter overheard in the office are anything to go by!
So gather your team, get your donations at the ready, and come down to Duke Studios at 18:30 tomorrow for a darn good evening that proves smartphones really can create a community after all!
