With data becoming central to evidence in policymaking, real value is drawn from using that data to understand the underlying contexts of places within which people live.
In this workshop, data scientists from the Healthy and Sustainable Places Data Service (HASP) will introduce you to open data that can build a picture of your area of interest, such as the Priority Places for Food Index and WhenFresh-Zoopla property data.
No coding background is needed; we will support you to work with code to analyse geospatial data, and we’ll provide you the chance to create concise map-based visuals (similar to the image above) and place-based insight for immediate impact.
The session will be concluded with a roundtable for attendees to showcase the insight they’ve created.
This workshop is aimed at anyone looking to get hands-on with geospatial data and visualisation (including AI-enabled plotting), including policy practitioners, charities and campaign groups, researchers, and anyone seeking to build new skills using data to better understand their areas.
All code, as well as data and instructions, will be provided, and all tools used in this session will be open source – just bring your own laptop and you’ll be ready to go!
