The Human Firewall: How Diversity Strengthens Cyber Defence

Organised by Leeds Trinity University

As cyber threats evolve at unprecedented speed, technical solutions alone are not enough to secure our digital world. The strongest defence lies in people – the human firewall – and the diversity of perspectives they bring.

This panel will explore how inclusion and representation in cyber security teams lead to more innovative problem-solving, stronger risk management, and better resilience against complex threats. Panellists from across industry, academia, and policy will share their experiences of breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes, and creating pathways for underrepresented groups to thrive in cyber.

The discussion will examine the systemic challenges that still limit diversity in the field, from recruitment biases to a lack of role models, and highlight strategies for change – including outreach, mentorship, and inclusive workplace practices.

Attendees will gain fresh insights into why diversity is not just a moral imperative but a strategic advantage, and leave with practical ideas for building teams that truly reflect the world they protect.
