Hate in sport is sadly not a new concept; history is littered with the abhorrence of professionals being abused based on their skin colour, sexuality or gender.
England’s recent defeat in the Final of Euro 2020 shone a light on how hate is no longer confined to the terraces as social media has become the new vessel for perpetrating harm. It highlighted how social media platforms and law enforcement are unable to effectively manage the volume of offending.
