As part of this year’s Leeds Digital Festival , we join Nexus Members, Slingshot Simulations & Scaled Insights as they share how they responded to COVID-19 by applying their technology to make sense of regional data during the global pandemic.
The coronavirus outbreak has had a significant impact on all of our lives, and Nexus members are no different. We join Slingshot Simulations and Scaled Insights, to discuss how they’ve applied their technology to help local government and public health organisations to make sense of the vast quantities of data COVID-19 has produced.

Over the past few months Slingshot Simulations, a leading provider of cutting-edge technologies and services, offering scalable simulation solutions for businesses of all sizes, leant their support to Leeds City Council’s ambitious plans to develop a Digital Twin. Dr David McKee , CEO and Founder will take a look at how the Digital Twin could provide councils and local government with much more insight into human behaviours to help support informed decisions to better the city.
As COVID-19 entered into the UK population’s consciousness, Scaled Insights – AI innovators developing AI to better understand human choices and decision making in health care, education, and financial services, worked alongside the University of Leeds to produce a general population survey. This survey aimed to understand adults’ thoughts and behaviours relating to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, considering the rapidly changing impact it is having on the way we lead our lives. Dr Stuart Flint (Associate Professor in Psychology, University of Leeds & President, Scaled Insights) & Dr Alicja Piotrkowicz (Computer Science Research Fellow, University of Leeds) will discuss their findings and how the results of the survey can be used to support people during and after the pandemic.
