Does this sound familiar?
A project, program or portfolio of work that has a long history, lots of interested people, but an underlying feeling of confusion about value, what everyone is working towards, who is responsible, and a gut feel that people could be working more effectively together. It can lead to miscommunication, siloed teams, unclear contributions from people, poor planning, slow decisions and unhappiness at work.
It is an uncomfortable place to be, and it can be overwhelming to know where to start. Fixing these kinds of problems is at the heart of a good delivery person’s role, but it promises more discomfort before things can improve.
Outside Faith’s day job as Head of Delivery, Project, and Programme Management at Herd Consulting, she teaches a style of yoga called Yin, in which deep stretches are held in stillness for a number of minutes. It can be confronting, uncomfortable, and feel uncertain, but the aftermath of such a deep stretch feels transformative. You’ve moved to a clearer place, physically mentally and energetically. Having emerged from a period of growth and learning, working with a Product and Business Analyst as a trio on an approach to unblocking delivery, we are calling the Rapid Exploration Squad, Faith felt like the two experiences felt strangely alike.
