Voice User Interfaces (VUI) are becoming increasingly popular as they are intuitive and easy to use. It is expected that 50% of all searches will be done via voice by 2020. Voice holds a particular appeal for healthcare – it’s more friendly than a screen and is key for people with low literacy, or with health conditions that make traditional digital interaction challenging.
Join NHS Digital for an interactive 1 day workshop to explore the challenges and opportunities of designing for voice.
After a primer on the principles of designing for voice, we’ll follow with a crash course on Alexa development. Attendees will then form into groups of 4, collect an Amazon Echo and get to work on a specific healthcare challenge, ranging from hands-free clinical support for paramedics to emergency first aid in the home. The day will culminate in a show ‘n’ tell of the solutions developed.
This session is ideal for interaction designers and anyone with an interest in user centred design. No programming or health sector experience is necessary.
Note: this event is not catered so please bring lunch. Alternatively there is a café nearby.
