Climate Disinformation: Separating Fact from Falsehoods

27th Apr 2022 10:00am - 11:00am Hosted by Crisp

It took a global pandemic to open our eyes to how easily disinformation can threaten public health at scale. Now, certain actor groups are using similar tactics to convince the public that no action is needed to combat climate change.

When these groups amplify false theories online their digital chatter can drown out scientific fact and undermine the credentials of climate scientists. These actor groups vary in profile and purpose. Some are politically motivated, while others represent private corporate interests. Their online narratives are designed to confuse and disrupt the online conversation about our environment.

During this session, Crisp will look at the mis and disinformation lessons learned from Covid-19 and how they apply to the current climate conversation. By using the signals from digital chatter and the online behaviours of actor groups to discover, classify and predict emerging risks to our environment, we can make the digital (and physical) world a safer place for everyone.
