Skills, Talent and Careers in Leeds’ Digital Sector

28th April 2017

Digital and technical skills are big topic and even bigger challenge for many businesses today and so it’s  no wonder that skills, talent and careers in the digital sector have featured in so many events throughout the week.

Yesterday in particular was no exception with the arrival of Tech North’s Digital Jobs Action Summit, an all day conference at Canal Mills calling for companies, educators and other local organisations to stop just talking about the skills gap and to start doing something about it. Featuring talks, discussions and practical tips on how you can make a difference to this modern day challenge. We caught up with Kirsty Styles, Head of Talent and Skills at Tech North:

We’ve also been very lucky to have Sky Betting & Gaming providing free Coding for Beginner Courses every day of the week for those looking to kickstart a career in digital.

Amsource have kindly also been offering CV clinics for job hunters as well as advice to businesses looking to hire new digital and technical staff. Today is the last day to access their open services so book on and get down before 5pm.

And who could forget that Friday see’s the return of the Herd Digital Job Fair at the First Direct Arena. The top digital employers of Leeds will all be there so you can learn more about their organisations and the potential career pathways available to you. There’s also talks, table football and some large bean bags if you need a breather. This is not to be missed, 12-4:30pm so no excuse.

In not careers related news yesterday again saw a flurry of events from ecommerce to big data. Particular highlights included the first VR Leeds 360 meetup, showcasing some of the latest kit and giving attendees the opportunity to share ideas for new applications.

Finally yesterday finished off with the much anticipated return of Code In The Dark at Belgrave Music Hall. 25 Developers entered and only 1 was named UK Code In The Dark Champion! Simon Willans from Engage Interactive.
